Bertschi UK – New Container Park Completed
After a challenging 2020, where the world was engulfed by the coronavirus pandemic, Bertschi continues to be positive and enthusiastic with substantial investments in 2021. One such investment is the expansion at Bertschi UK. With the reality of Brexit last year, we forecasted the increase in demand for UK storage, and planned accordingly.
At Bertschi UK in Middlesbrough (North-East England), which is 4 miles from Teesport, Bertschi owns and operates a bonded / AEO-approved terminal. This terminal has a storage capacity of 2,700 containers for DG and non-DG products (including heating), allowing Bertschi UK to provide flexibility to store and distribute throughout the UK at short notice.
For imported plastic material, two tipping frames to trans-ship plastics in bulk, from deep-sea shipping containers to payload-optimized 30’ bag-in-a-box containers, reduce demurrage/detention. For palletized material Bertschi UK can hold 14,000 pallets inside an 18,000m² warehouse, which includes debagging machines.
The bulk business of the Bertschi UK Plastics HUB has been increasing over recent years. A 2nd tilt platform was installed in late 2019 to meet demand, which essentially increased the requirement for an improved bulk storage capacity. To meet the increase, Bertschi invested heavily in a new 23,000m² ‘Container Park’. Construction began 27 July 2020, on adjacent land purchased in 2010, and was completed April 2021. The new park holds an additional 1,500 TEU. This allows Bertschi UK to increase bulk storage capacity for existing customers, but more importantly, to open up expansion for new potential customers.
