Celebrating World Environment Day 2023: How we commit to #BeatPlasticPollution!
At Bertschi, we believe that preserving our planet is not just a responsibility, but a duty we owe to future generations. Today, on World Environment Day, we are thrilled to share our commitment to combatting plastic pollution, a pressing global issue that demands collective action. Join us as we work together to #BeatPlasticPollution and create a cleaner, greener future..
Operation Clean Sweep: Taking Responsibility for Plastic Waste
As a company, we prioritize sustainability in every aspect of our operations. Through our steadfast commitment to Operation Clean Sweep, we are dedicated to having ZERO plastic pellet, flake, and powder loss during loading, unloading, and transportation. By implementing rigorous procedures in all our terminal operations and with regular employee training, we ensure that plastic waste is minimized, preventing it from entering the environment and our oceans. Part of our steps towards this is having special cleaning machines, immediately cleaning up any spilled pellets before leaving any areas, daily and weekly inspection rounds, and filters in site water drains. Together, we can make a significant impact and safeguard our precious ecosystems.
ISOtanks and Green Liners: Redefining Sustainable Transportation
Transportation plays a crucial role in the fight against plastic pollution, and at Bertschi, we have taken innovative steps to minimize our ecological footprint. We are committed to transporting all our liquid orders soley through our Bertschi tank containers, rather than through flexibags.
A flexibag is a large single-use plastic bag used in the bulk transportation industry to transport large quantities of liquids around the world. A flexibag weighs approximately 40 kilograms, the equivalent of over 7,000 plastic single-use shopping bags. Many used flexibags end up filling landfills and perhaps even our oceans. The reusable stainless steal Bertschi ISOtank, on the other hand, makes around 5 international trips per year, over a 20-year lifespan. Over this lifespan, one ISOtank is equivalent to 100 single-use flexibags—the equivalent of over half a million single-use plastic shopping bags. Once the ISOtank has completed its lifecycle, most of it can be recycled into many steel items. Our Bertschi tank containers have clear advantages when it comes to safety and sustainability!
Another alternative that we implement is the use of Green Liners as the sustainable alternative to conventional plastic liners for our transportation of dry bulk chemicals. By choosing these eco-friendly solutions, we significantly reduce the reliance on single-use plastic packaging, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable supply chain. Through these initiatives, we prove that practical and responsible choices can pave the way for a plastic-free future.
Today, as we celebrate World Environment Day and its theme of #BeatPlasticPollution, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a better world. Together, we have the power to make a difference. Join us in our pursuit of sustainability, as we continue to explore innovative ways to reduce plastic waste, protect our environment, and create a brighter future for all.
