Bertschi receives safety award from Covestro
Bertschi Global AG has won the Covestro Asia Pacific “Innovation in Transportation Safety” Award for its “Outstanding Initiative for Transportation Safety Improvement”. As part of the Safety Champion Program Covestro honors logistics service providers for outstanding initiatives in improving safety standards. With an innovative tank container design, Bertschi is setting new safety and efficiency standards for the global logistics of liquid chemical products.
Covestro is a leading manufacturer of high-performance polymers and has 30 production sites around the globe, including a strong presence in the Asia-Pacific region. As a global player in the chemical industry Covestro embeds safety and sustainability in every element of the company’s strategy. With the initialisation of the “Safety Champion Program” Covestro expresses the importance of safe logistic operations for its supply chain. The goal of the program is to encourage their logistics service providers to be self-driven for safety and promote best practices sharing.
Bertschi received the award on March 9 in Pattaya (Thailand) in the category “Innovation in Transportation Safety”, being awarded for the highest safety and quality standards of their global deep-sea tank container fleet. Each container is equipped with collapsible handrail and 100 percent walkway coverage, the combination of which ensures a safe working environment when on top of the container.
The award was handed over by Mr. Samir Hifri, Senior Vice President, Head of Supply Chain Center, APAC, Covestro to Shawn Ng, General Manager Isotanks Bertschi South East Asia, Singapore and Roger Gloor, Technical Manager Isotanks Bertschi Group, in an award ceremony attended by the Covestro Supply Chain Leadership Team Asia Pacific.
Bertschi was the first operator to devise this innovative design as permanent installation and apply it to the total fleet of global tank containers. As a result, no working-at-height accident was recorded since the fleet of currently over 9,000 tank containers was put into global operations. The design is highly appreciated by shippers and receivers of chemicals as well as all other parties involved in the container handling. The innovative design of the containers is also setting new safety and efficiency standards for the global transportation of liquid chemical products.
