Michael Baechler appointed as Group COO - Nils Thater succeeds as Managing Director of Business Unit Global

Effective June 1, 2019, Michael Baechler (47), Head of the Business Unit (BU) Global, Dürrenäsch, is appointed to the new position as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Bertschi Group. Michael Baechler has been working for the company since 1998 and has played a key role in the development of the Group in different positions such as Division Manager Projects, Head of Intermodal Network, General Manager Italy and Managing Director BU Liquids Europe. Since 2012, operating as Managing Director BU Global, he successfully positioned the company in the global tank container transport market.

With the new Position as COO, Bertschi Group emphasises the willingness to further develop the success factor of integrated, customer-oriented processes in the digitized environment of logistics markets and to proactively realise growth opportunities.

As of February 1, 2019, Nils Thater (36), Deputy Managing Director of BU Global in Dürrenäsch, takes over the role as Managing Director BU Global. BU Global is responsible for the Group’s worldwide tank container shipments, with its own subsidiaries in Shanghai, Singapore, Houston, Dubai, Sao Paolo and Dürrenäsch. Nils Thater has been with the company since 2012. He has successfully developed the subsidiary in Dubai, before assuming his current position at the headquarters in Switzerland.

In 2024, Bertschi Group expanded its global footprint with new operations launched in Japan, Korea, and India. The company strengthened its commitment to sustainability by engaging in decarbonized logistics and the transport of renewable energy. Customer service was further enhanced through automation and tailored digital solutions, driving greater efficiency and personalized support. Bertschi achieved a turnover of CHF 1.01 billion, marking a 5% increase, though margins remained under pressure. The company invested over CHF 90 million in global expansions, infrastructure for sustainable logistics to meet Europe’s growing import demands, and digitalization initiatives. Additionally, Bertschi co-founded the Women in Logistics consortium to promote diversity and inclusion within the sector.
